First published in 2002, Believing Women in Islam: Unreading Patriarchal Interpretations of the Qur'an is firmly established as one of the most significant books on gender justice in Islam. The book not only challenges oppressive readings of the Qur'an but also offers a reading that confirms that Muslim women can struggle for equality from within the framework of the Qur'an's teachings.

In conversation with Sofia Rehman (PhD candidate in Theology and Religious Studies), Professor Asma Barlas (Ithaca College, USA) will discuss the latest edition of Believing Women, which has two new chapters and additional material throughout.
